This is an area of controversy. If a man is planning to have children, then I would not use testosterone replacement but would use Clomid which improves any ability of the testicles to produce more testosterone. The downside is the expense of Clomid compared to testosterone. Again, an area of controversy and I suggest your husband see a urologist who specializes in male infertility for a definitive answer.

I read your article and have a question regarding male infertility. My husband is hypothyroid. His levels are stable, however his testosterone is low. He is on Androgel, but now being put on Axiron (two pumps a day). His sperm results still show such a low count that they don't even bother to count them. I'm wondering if the Androgel/Axiron are the culprit to killing his sperm? I've gone around and around with his Endo - who says that his testosterone levels are low, so it wouldn't affect it, however I've read how these synthetic gels lower sperm counts. Your thoughts?
