Incontinence-There’s An App For That

Now an app is available, iDry, that helps men and women suffering from urinary incontinence log data on their urinary symptoms, provides reminders for exercises to help control the condition, and enables users to share progress with their physician. The app can also provide predictions for future success. It is available in a free version and a premium version that allows users to create their own interventions and E-mail charts and log data to their doctor.     Incontinence is a debilitating condition that older adults may not report to their healthcare providers if they are embarrassed or believe it to be a normal part of aging. The app that Dr. Baum mentions is a terrific resource for independent, community-dwelling adults to manage their incontinence, but for those adults residing in long-term care, staff caregivers must constantly manage residents’ incontinence and be vigilant of incontinence-associated dermatitis, as it can lead to many negative outcomes.
